Frequently Asked Question

Posters
Last Updated 2 years ago

Basic Characteristics

  • Dimensions: 680x1000 pixels
  • Initial upload can be any type (png or jpg). It will convert to the required type for this format (.jpg).
  • The initial upload needs to be at least the dimensions listed above. This is an attempt to force higher quality.
  • Max upload size is now 10 MB, but post-crop the file size will be aligned with our current images. We compress .jpgs at 90% compression, which should almost never appear lossy.
  • Available on: series, movies, + seasons

Posters can be used in coverflow applications and in social media applications.

Guidelines

  • Series & movie posters should include the series/movie name (recommended, not required)
  • Do not upload minor variations of the same image. This includes:
    • Small differences in sizing, zoom, cutoff, etc.
    • Minute color variations, like tinting
  • DVD covers are allowed as posters at both the series and season level, as long as they are the official DVD cover. They should not be used for movies.
  • Series posters should be representative of the entire series and not be season or episode-specific.
  • Season posters should clearly indicate what season they are representing.  This means:
    • No Episode specific posters
    • The season number or name should be indicated.
    • If cast are shown they must actually appear in the season the poster is being added to. Don't upload a poster with a cast member that has left in previous seasons.

Minor Variation Examples

We do not allow for images that are largely duplicates and contain only minor variations in logo style, color, or contain additional unnecessary logos. In the examples below we wouldn't allow the variations containing the additional studio logo or variations on the official logo.

Unacceptable Image Examples

Below are additional images in styles we regularly find on the site. They include descriptions of their acceptability for inclusion on the site.

Example Image Reason The Image Is Not Acceptable
image While official DVD covers are accepted at the Series and Season level. They should not contain large banners that are not part of the key art.  In this case the Bluray banner at the top of the image.
image This image is poorly framed or cropped.  Part of the logo is missing. If an image cannot be resized in a way that appropriately matches our prescribed dimensions. Then that image should not be used.
image A background image should not be added to a solid colored image in order to create a poster.  If a full height image cannot be found, then no image should be uploaded.
image A background image should not be added over a blurred larger version of the image. If a full height image cannot be found, then no image should be uploaded.
